The story behind the kit
Pumped storage moves water between a lower and upper reservoir so energy can be stored and released when the electricity system needs it. At Ingula, water flows downhill through reversible pump-turbines to generate electricity, then can be pumped uphill again when supply is available.
Build the waterway and turbine, vary the release height or flow and count how the wheel responds. The model focuses on moving water and rotation while the guide connects that observation to the larger pumped-storage cycle.
Take the idea further
Record your results, explain each energy change and identify what a small model can demonstrate—and what it cannot reproduce about a full power station.
What they'll learn
- How moving water turns a turbine
- Potential and kinetic energy
- Measuring flow and rotational speed
- Reading technical diagrams
Questions about this kit
Does the turbine generate real electricity?
The standard kit demonstrates rotation and flow. Add a small DC motor (not included) to light an LED — the guide shows how.
